Triple H pushing WWE to change WrestleMania 31 main event plan

WrestleMania XXXI is now just 11 days away and as fans' excitement about the WWE's marquee event continues to grow, so does speculation that the organization could be planning a surprise for the main event between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.

With the WWE seemingly intent on putting over Roman Reigns as the rising face of the company, and with Lesnar's future in the WWE still unclear as contract negotiations stall, many fans in the know are expecting to see Reigns walk away as the new Heavyweight Champion on March 29.

Change of plans

New speculation today however suggests that it could actually be The Beast Incarnate who retains the WWE Championship in the main event in what would be a shocking twist all things considered. Triple H no less is believed to be the one pushing for the angle.

The back stage rumor comes courtesy of regular Reddit user MetsFan4Ever - a contributor who has broken numerous news stories as well as previously unseen WWE scripts.

Per their post:

"Word going around is that Brock Lesnar is very close to agreeing on a new contract with the WWE."

"With the lack of popularity that Roman Reigns has received as of late, Triple H is pushing Vince on the idea of keeping the WWE Championship on Brock."

Contract development

The first point of note here is the revelation that Brock Lesnar is nearing a new deal that will keep him in the WWE.

With the wrestler's current deal running out the day after WrestleMania XXXI, and with Lesnar and Vince McMahon reportedly at logger heads after a disagreement at an early-March Raw, this would mark a change around in fortunes for the WWE.

Indeed, with Lesnar looking likely to walk out on the WWE the creative team had had little option but to write him out of the position as title holder.

Now though, if a deal truly is close to being agreed, the WWE's options for the main event match have suddenly opened up.

Roman Reigns has struggled to maintain support amongst the WWE Universe. Since winning Royal Rumble the fan reaction to the rising Superstar has not been what the WWE had hoped for. As such, plans to give him the Championship that have long been in place have been being questioned in recent times.

If Triple H gets his way and Lesnar is given the title instead there also set to be ramifications for two other big name Superstars.

Lesnar's new deal would still likely only mean limited appearances meaning he wouldn't be present at all the WWE's big shows. To accommodate for this, MetsFan4Ever claims that John Cena and Daniel Bryan would be given the US and Intercontinental titles respectively, with the WWE giving both increased attention in the aftermath of 'Mania.

Of course, as is the nature of WWE decision making, these plans could yet change come the big night itself.

What do you think WWE fans? Who do you want to see come out victorious in the WrestleMania main event? And is it a good thing that Lesnar looks close to signing a new deal? Let us know in the comments section below...
