Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has hailed Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas as “the main man” and a “baller” on Twitter.

The England international posted an old photo showing him in training alongside the Spaniard back when they were teammates together at the Emirates Stadium, alongside the caption: “Flashback with the main man @cesc4official #Baller”.

Wilshere played alongside Fabregas as a professional for three years before the latter agreed to return to Barcelona in the summer of 2011.

Wilshere: I was hurt by Fabregas departure

The 23-year-old, in an interview with Arsenal’s official website in November 2013, admitted the departure of Fabregas hurt him even more than when Robin van Persie decided to leave for Manchester United a year later.

"The one I was really upset about leaving was Fabregas, I learned so much from just watching him," he was quoted as saying by the Telegraph. "He's similar to me starting at a young age.

"I was the most upset about him leaving.”

Fabregas was right to join Chelsea

Fabregas spent three years with Barcelona before making the difficult decision to leave the Camp Nou last summer.

After Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger surprisingly rejected the opportunity to re-sign the 27-year-old midfielder, Fabregas subsequently accepted Jose Mourinho’s invitation to join Chelsea - and he has not looked back since.

Fabregas has already lifted the Capital One Cup and should - barring an extraordinary slip-up over the next two months - end the season with his first Premier League winners’ medal.

Some Arsenal fans feel Fabregas betrayed the Gunners by joining rivals Chelsea, but the former Barcelona star was well within his rights to join the Blues, particularly after Wenger snubbed him.

And he looks set to enjoy great success at Stamford Bridge under Mourinho’s management.
