Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao took to Instagram after featuring in the club's huge 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

Posting a photo of himself alongside his teammates, the Colombian hit-man, who came on as a second half substitute earlier today, congratulated his fellow players.

Below the photo, Falcao stated: "Celebrating the win against Liverpool! Well done lads!"

United, of course, secured all three points over Brendan Rodgers' side thanks to a Juan Mata double. Despite Liverpool captain captain Steven Gerrard being shown a red card, the Reds managed to make it a nervy last 20 minutes after Daniel Sturridge found the net, but Louis van Gaal's side just about got over the line.

The result, then, is a huge one for Manchester United in their attempt to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Falcao will stay on at Old Trafford ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, but playing a role in his side's victory today will only help his confidence as the season approaches its latter stages.

United in the driving seat

Not only are Van Gaal's side in the driving seat in terms of points, but they are also the team with the momentum ahead of the final run in.

And with United set to play host to Aston Villa next weekend, while Liverpool travel to high-flying Arsenal, the Red Devils could go as many as eight points ahead of Rodgers's side. United should feel confident, and they must now complete the job after a fine day on Merseyside.
