Manchester United round-up: Juan Mata admits Karim Benzema brings him joy

Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has admitted that he's a huge fan of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in his latest blog.

The Spain international, who scored two fabulous goal in United's 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, rushed home to watch El Clasico in the evening - and was impressed with what he witnessed from Real Madrid's number nine.

Mata wrote: "I want to say that it’s a pleasure to watch Benzema; there are not many players with such talent and plasticity."

Benzema may have been on the losing side but was arguably the game's best player, setting up Cristiano Ronaldo's equalising goal with an exquisite back-heel.

The 27-year-old is often overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo, but the impotent role he plays for Los Blancos cannot be overstated.

Benzema, who has scored 131 goals in 276 matches since joining Real Madrid in 2009, would be universally regarded as one of the world's best players in any other era.

But like many other top players of the current era, they find themselves trailing in the dust of both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Falcao has played a peripheral role for United in recent weeks and Louis van Gaal reportedly has no interest in turning his loan move into a permanent transfer.

And according to a Goal insider, Van Gaal has placed the former Real Madrid star on a special muscle-gaining regime in the hope it will improve his core strength.
