Gremio supporters fire rockets at goalkeeper

Football News

It's no secret that Brazilian fans live and breathe football, and their supporters are renowned for their passion which can, in certain circumstances, turn downright ugly and dangerous.

On Sunday, a goalkeeper was on the receiving end of some dangerous antics conducted by Gremio fans as they launched rockets towards his goal in a bid to distract the shot-stopper.

As their team attacked inside the opposition's half, footage appears to show the Gremio supporters launching a rocket at the goalkeeper.

Yes, it was foolish and dangerous but the original method seems to have reaped rewards after the distraction technique resulted in a Gremio goal.

Moral fans rest assured, the goal was disallowed by the match official. Indeed, its not uncommon for fans to hurl abuse and even objects at opposition players in a bid to destabilise their team's opponents but these Gremio fans have taken "being the 12th man" and fighting spirit to a whole new, and nasty level.

If these sort of diversion tactics employed by the club's fans are a regular occurrence, its no wonder Gremio currently sit comfortably top of the Gaucho 1 division. And if this kind of behaviour goes un-punished by the Brazilian FA, its likely they will remain at the top for a while longer...

Not the first time

It might not come as a huge surprise to know that the Gremio faithful are no strangers to off-field controversy, as the Daily Mail recently reported.

The Brazilian outfit were banned from this year's Brazilian Cup after fans racially insulted an opposition player in a match dating back to September 2014, as well as being fined £12,500 after the case was bought to a tribunal.
