Dominik Stroh-Engel is not a name that will ring many bells in the ears of English football fans, not before this week anyway.

The SV Darmstadt 98 star has shot to fame after missing an absolute sitter with the score poised at 0-0.

Indeed, it is a glaring miss the German will be keen to forget, certainly it will be difficult for him to suffer a worse miss with the goal gaping in his professional footballing career.

Hilarious yet agonising

The hilariously agonising moment occurred in a Bundesliga 2 match between SV Darmstadt 98 and Fortuna Düsseldorf.

His team-mates were preparing to celebrate his goal when the ball landed at Stroh-Engel's feet with the goal gaping, but the player completely fluffed his shot from four metres out.

Costly mistake

His team went on to lose the match 2-0, and a draw would have seen SV Darmstadt 98 move into the automatic promotion places of Germany's second division.

Sometimes, images tell a story better than words. So, for your pleasure and at one striker's expense, here is the video below:

Competition for miss of the decade

Luckily for Dominik Stroh-Enge, it would appear that miss of the decade is still the work of Ivory Coast's forward Boti Demel. The comical howler was caught on camera during a match between his Georgian employers Zestafoni and Merani Martvil.

The forward will rue the presence of cameras as he appeared to miss two shots with not even the goalkeeper standing in his way.

Once again, for your pure viewing pleasure, here is the video below:
