CC Sabathia is under pressure at the Yankees after a disappointing 2014 MLB season.
The former New York Yankees leading pitcher is a shadow of his former self these days. In nine and two-thirds of game work over spring training, CC Sabathia has displayed a man not comfortable in his own skin these days.
The 34-year-old lefty struggled on Saturday at the Yankees' minor league complex for Triple A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against the Pirates' affiliate Indianapolis, with the ball player allowing five home runs.
Following his terrible performance on Saturday, a reporter asked the veteran pitcher how much stock people should put in his spring training results, and in response, CC Sabathia gave the reporter a piece of his mind.
“I don’t give a [expletive] what stock they put in it,” Sabathia fumed, New York Post reported.
Sabathia is a six-time MLB All-Star, but it has been two seasons since he reached those heights. Though he still plays a key part in the Yankees' rotation, and will start on April 9 against Toronto Blue Jays, Sabathia knows he has to improve and he insists he still can't wait for opening day and to get the season underway.
“It is what it is. I’ve had spring trainings where I’ve given up a lot of runs and went out and had a good season.
"I’ve had spring trainings like last year where I didn’t give up [any] runs [in spring training] and I gave up [six] in the first game [April 1 at Houston].
"So you all can put stock in whatever you want. I’m not really worried about it. I’m excited to get a chance to enjoy Opening Day.”
