Radamel Falcao won't be helped to decide future by Colombia coach - Man United roundup

Football News

We’re smack bang in the middle of the international break, which means that there’s no fixtures to dissect and no real team news to break down.

Of course what is doesn’t guarantee is an end to the transfer rumour mill churning out the latest batches of speculation, and boy do we have a treat if you’re a follower of Manchester United. Without further ado let us feed your empty bellies with the latest Old Trafford-focused news. Dig in, folks.

Falcao to decide future

Where better to start than with an update on Colombian forward Radamel Falcao? With this international break having seen him bag against both Bahrain and Kuwait he’ll be hoping to return to Manchester in a rich vein of form.

I’ve always said that if you can score against teams like Bahrain and Kuwait then Manchester City and Chelsea should pose as much a problem as Preston North End, but I digress.

The real reason we’ve arrived at Falcao is due to a statement made recently by Colombia coach Jose Pekerman, which confirms he’ll not try and influence the striker over what he does come the summer.

With the 29-year-old striker having proved about as potent as Lord Bendtner on English shores the general consensus is that he has no future in Manchester, though Pekerman has moved to insist he won’t be the reason behind him leaving.

"If Falcao leaves Manchester United it is a personal decision," he said.

"I'm not the right person to have a say on this matter.

"I always want him to be happy. He is an experienced player, intelligent."

Something Pekerman might be forgetting is that Falcao’s future is really and truly out of his hands what with United having the final say on whether or not to take him on permanently. But the devil is in the details, as they say, and no one really has time for him these days.

De Bruyne favourites

Moving on, our second story of the day surrounds a sensational claim emanating from Belgium. It’s now purported that United are in pole position to secure the services of ex-Chelsea ace Kevin De Bruyne, who is of course tearing up the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg.

The Red Devils are joined by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the race and already have an abundance of creative players on their books, but don’t let that stifle your optimism. The Belgian star is a wanted man and with Van Gaal’s transfer kitty could well be an astute purchase.

Coentrao's honour

Last but certainly not least we’ve got a Real Madrid star professing how much of an honour it would be to play for Manchester United. Alright, it’s not Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale but Fabio Coentrao is still a proven Los Blancos talent.

The Portuguese defender has been linked with an Old Trafford switch in the past but this year could be the one where he actually makes it.
