Woman who looks like Ander Herrera goes viral

A female Manchester United fan's photograph has gone viral on social media after her sister suddenly realised she looked the spitting image of Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera.

Twitter user @HELLinaaaa posted a side-by-side image of her sister and Herrera, and tweeted directly to the Manchester United ace: “seriously mate are you and my sister related or something??”

This story has now been picked up by the Manchester Evening News and there’s no doubt the resemblance between Herrera and the lady in question is quite remarkable.

Whether the woman in question feels flattered or distraught by the comparison is unclear - although it could have been worse; she could have been compared to Wayne Rooney.

@HELLinaaaa, meanwhile, could not have timed her tweet any better, what with Herrera’s fine recent form.

Herrera in great form for United

The former Athletic Bilbao star, who cost United £29 million last summer, scored twice during the Red Devils’ 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon and is now one of the first names on Louis van Gaal’s team sheet.

This was not the case for the first six months of his spell at Old Trafford; Herrera was often overlooked by Van Gaal, who persisted with Rooney in central midfield while trying to accommodate both Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie in attack.

But in recent weeks Herrera has flourished in central midfield, while Rooney looks far more comfortable in his natural position upfront.

Speculation is subsequently rife that Manchester United will sell Van Persie at the end of the season, while Falcao is also likely to leave Old Trafford when his season-long loan spell comes to an end.

Herrera happy at Old Trafford

Herrera, meanwhile, has no intention of leaving the Red Devils this summer - although it may have been a different story if he was still spending most of his time on the substitutes’ bench.

"I'm very happy. Even when I was not playing, I was also happy. I am at Manchester United. I feel really lucky to be here," Herrera told United Review, according to Sky Sports. "It's my dream to be here for a long time because I am in the right team, in the right league and in the right country. I want to stay at the club for many years to come.

"I feel I quickly adapted to this league and this country because I am so comfortable here.

"I think (we at) Manchester United are always helping each other to adapt and to feel like we're at home.

"I feel really good at United and I hope to stay here for a long time.

"The manager has to decide who is playing or not but we have to respect always the decision he makes. The manager wants the best for the team, the best for us and we have to follow him always."

Do United need a new central midfielder?

Herrera’s recent form may convince Van Gaal that Manchester United are not in desperate need of a new top-class central midfielder this summer.

The Spaniard has a bright future ahead of him at Old Trafford and possesses the talent to become a regular fixture in United’s midfield for many years to come.
