Louis van Gaal spotted celebrating derby win with Manchester City ladies

Louis van Gaal could not resist an evening out with those closest to him after seeing his Manchester United team triumph over their local rivals.

The Red Devils ran riot against Manchester City, beating them 4-2 and putting a four-point cushion between the two of them in the Premier League table. It was a moment to savour for United fans and one to forget for the City faithful.

City's players would have been wise to avoid Manchester hotspot Wings as that is where Van Gaal was enjoying his well-earned victory meal. When two players for City's ladies team strolled in, it threatened to ruin the ambience. Much to the surprise of everyone, it didn't.

Manchester City women's players Toni Duggan and Isobel Christiansen were also dining in Wings and thought nothing to ask the Old Trafford boss if he would take a photo with them. That photo was then uploaded to Instagram and now we're writing about it.

Unsurprisingly, the post has since been deleted from the account, but it has already been screenshotted and shared across the world, much to the delight of Manchester United fans.

The Manchester United manager made it clear that he would be visiting Wings straight after the final whistle blew.

He told reporters: "I can go to Mr Wing's because when you win you can go.

"When you lose then the fans are saying, "what is Mr Louis van Gaal doing? Losing and he goes to the best restaurant of Manchester?" Now I can go. Maybe I shall go."

The game

Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata and Chris Smalling all scored to help Manchester United overturn an early goal from Sergio Aguero. It was Manchester United's sixth straight Premier League win and City's third defeat in four games.

It leaves Manuel Pellegrini's men as the most likely team to drop out of the top four with Liverpool able to close to gap to just four points if they beat Newcastle on Monday night.

Top four

The win virtually guarantees a top four spot for Manchester United. Only a disaster will see them drop below the Champions League qualifying spots but Manchester City are in real danger.

They travel to White Hart Lane in May and losing that would allow Mauricio Pochettino's men to have a realistic chance of catching them.
