Manchester United ready to let ten players leave this summer

Manchester United are set to continue a recurring theme by culling a large number of first-team stars, including the likes of Robin van Persie, reports The Times.

Louis van Gaal has a lot of money to spend and not a lot of spaces in his squad so the only option, it seems, is to clear out what he considers deadwood. They'll be replaced with world-class additions and hopefully move the Red Devils one step closer to their 14th Premier League title.

Robin van Persie is the highest-profile to be mentioned. The Dutchman was expected to be the teacher's pet when Van Gaal arrived but has now been shifted onto the bench in favour of Wayne Rooney.

Loyalty points

With only 12 months left on his £250,000-a-week contract and Manchester United facing the prospect of having to pay him £10million in loyalty bonuses, Van Persie is ripe for the chop and could come at a bargain price for any club wanting to sign him.

But he won't be alone when packing his bags and walking out of Carrington for the last time. The report mentions as many as 10 other players who are likely to get their marching orders from Van Gaal.

The list

They include: goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos; defenders Rafael Da Silva and Jonny Evans; Tom Cleverley, Nani and Nick Powell in midfield and strikers Javier Hernández, Ángelo Henriquez and Will Keane.

Some of these will come as no surprise. Cleverley, for example, is out of contract in the summer and it has been clear for some time that Manchester United would not renew it. He has been on loan at Aston Villa this season but has been linked with the likes of Everton and Arsenal in recent times.

Contract rebels

While these players will leave with the consent of Manchester United, there are still two players who could leave despite efforts to keep them at Old Trafford. They are Andreas Pereira and David de Gea.

Pereira's contract expires in the summer and he appears to have already been propositioned with Paris Saint-German. De Gea's still has 12 months on his deal but seems to be tempted by Real Madrid.

Of course, Radamel Falcao is also likely to bring an end to his Manchester United career at the end of this season. Having failed to impress in spectacular fashion, there seems little chance of Van Gaal making his loan arrangement from Monaco a permanent one.

Are there any players mentioned above who should NOT be allowed to leave?
