What do Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez have in common?

For one thing they are two of the best players to be playing in the Premier League right now. They both have scored plenty of goals and carried their teams through thick and thin.

However with this, the most impressive commonality is that both are two of the nominees for the 2014/15 PFA Player of the Year Award. This is the most prestigious title which can be awarded to a single player for an outstanding contribution in a given season.

It is a title earned on merit and is voted for by the peers of each player on the list with whom they battle against on a weekly basis.

But who will win?

The current holder of the award is Luis Suarez who had a quite remarkable year in a Liverpool team which came extremely close to clinching the Premier League title during the 2013/14 season.

Suarez was breathtaking. His goals, close control, his tenacity and will to win was so evident that he arguably was the catalyst to Liverpool's title push that season. With that being said, Liverpool did not win the League. This seems a familiar story with the player who should arguably be awarded the title of Best Player this season.

Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez without doubt has been the best player in the Premier League this season. On statistics alone he is ahead of his closest rival Hazard.

Sanchez has in all competitions 21 goals, 14 of them in the Premier League. Adding to this he has accumulated eight assists, and the season is not even finished yet. Yes, Sanchez is a goalscorer and yes goalscorers are arguably the most important asset to any team.

What else makes Sanchez the right choice for PFA Player of the Year?

First season

Firstly one must take into consideration that this has been Sanchez's first season in the Premier League. Signed for £35 million from FC Barcelona, Arsene Wenger knew once again what type of string he was adding to his bow.

The most impressive aspect of Sanchez is his will to win, his sheer doggedness and never say die attitude. For Arsenal fans and surely neutrals, watching such a player week in and week out must never tire. Although he has scored some memorable goals, it is simply the work ethic which cuts Sanchez above the rest of the PFA's list.

Arsene Wenger has said how he is a joy to work with; a managers dream if you will. Sanchez will take a heavy knock from a strong challenge, which are a common theme in Premier League games, and simply get back to his feet, or else attempt to win back possession. This is the ultimate team player.

Other contenders?

Eden Hazard is a phenomenal football player, and has been exceptionl for Chelsea this season. Other notable mentions for the award are Tottenham's Harry Kane and Manchester United's excellent goalkeeper David de Gea.

However, for the fact that this is his debut season, the fact he has already 14 goals in the League and the fact that game after game Sanchez is a fixture in the Arsenal team, unless it is demanded of him that he take a rest, that the Chilean absolutely deserves to be named the best player of the 2014/15 Premier League season.
