Jamie Redknapp makes a controversial claim about Marouane Fellaini

Former Liverpool ace turned Sky Sports’ pundit Jamie Redknapp has advised Manchester United not to rely on Marouane Fellaini moving forward. despite the Belgium international’s success this season. Under David Moyes Fellaini was a flop at Old Trafford, but Louis van Gaal appears to have a formula to get the very best from his strengths. Redknapp however, whilst discussing United’s 3-0 loss to Everton last weekend, insisted that Fellaini shouldn’t be the long-term option for Van Gaal, as his benefits are too one dimensional. Criticism was levelled at United earlier this year for their use of the towering midfielder as a target man, though Van Gaal seems happy with the system. Elsewhere the next United player to be handed a new contract looks to be Phil Jones, who rumours infer is in negotiations with his club over an extension. Chris Smalling signed a new deal last month, and it looks like Van Gaal is keen to tie down his defensive options.
