Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is in contention to start for the Old Trafford this weekend against West Bromwich Albion.
The Dutch international was out of action after injuring his ankle in a match at the Liberty Stadium versus Swansea City in late February, but played a half in the defeat to Everton last week.
He recently stepped up his comeback for United’s under-21 side, scoring twice against Fulham earlier this week. And Louis van Gaal may decide to throw him straight into the mix against the Baggies from the start on Saturday.
The former-Arsenal captain has 10 goals in an injury hit season so far for the Red Devils, and speculation has linked him with a move away from Old Trafford at the end of the season.
He remains a firm favourite of van Gaal’s though, and with Radamel Falcao unlikely to make his loan move permanent after a difficult season in the Premier League, it would be a surprise to see van Persie depart.
While he may be fit enough to start, which is encouraging news for United fans, van Gaal did also reveal that a number of key first-team stars will miss the WBA game.
Marcos Rojo, Rafael, and potentially most damaging of all, Michael Carrick, will all be absent for tomorrow’s encounter with Tony Pulis’s side.
Left-back Luke Shaw is also injured after picking up a groin problem, so Danny Blind may be forced back into a full-back role unless van Gaal opts to play Paddy McNair out of position.
United will be looking to take a step closer to clinching Champions League qualification for next season with three points at home this weekend.
Liverpool’s poor run of form - taking just one point from fixtures against West Brom and Hull City - means that United are comfortably positioned in the top four with just four matches of the season remaining.
What do you think Manchester United fans - should van Gaal start Robin van Persie against WBA?
