Liverpool must target world class players in the transfer window

After seemingly surrendering their place in the Champions League for next season, Liverpool will have their work cut out to make amends for this in the 2014/15 campaign.

Brendan Rodgers accepted the need the strengthen the team for next term, and he be given some funds - perhaps not as much as in the past - to get Liverpool back into the top four once more.

We look at possible transfer targets that can help Brendan & Co. bring back glory days at Anfield.

Theo Walcott

With the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott has been handed a bit part role after return from injury.

The speedster fits perfectly into the Rodgers' style of play, providing vital goals, something that Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic have failed to do.

Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay, who has lit up the Dutch league with his 21 goals and four assists from a wide position this season.

Depay seems tailor made for the Premier League and Liverpool will be challenged by Manchester United for his signature.

Mats Hummels

The Liverpool backline has been porous, leaking in goals at vital moments. Dejan Lovren has failed to justify the hefty price tag and Mamadou Sakho seems uncomfortable with playing the ball out of the defence.

Hummels shall provide much needed leadership and is a competent passer of the ball. But Manchester United seems his most likely destination.

Ricardo Rodríguez

Alberto Moreno has not convinced with the left back/left wing role notably guilty of poor positioning against Juan Mata in the build-up to his goals at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Ricardo Rodríguez is earning rave reviews for his performances for high flying Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga.

Sami Khedira

Having been linked with Liverpool in the past, Sami Khedira would be commanding presence in the midfield. With Steven Gerrard leaving for MLS, he adds steel with his all-action midfield role.

Edinson Cavani

Liverpool need to move the deadwood - Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini &and Rickie Lambert - and look for one genuinely world class striker.

PSG may be willing to sell and, if they do, Liverpool should be one of the clubs in the running. Divock Origi is set to return from his loan spell at Lille and shall provide worthy backup to Cavani and Sturridge.
