Football News

Chelsea star Francesc Fabregas has hinted that he is planning on staying at Stamford Bridge for a long-time to come, insisting that his plans for the future involve winning the Champions League.

The former Arsenal captain transferred to the Blues last summer and became an instant hit, transforming the fortunes he had at Barcelona to turn himself into an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Fabregas importance

Alongside defensive rock Nemanja Matic the Spaniard has endeavoured to become the chief playmaker for Chelsea, and his eye for a pass has created 17 Premier League goals this season.

Such stats have obviously contributed massively towards Mourinho’s men winning the Premier League title, a feat they achieved early via beating Crystal Palace this weekend. However, not one to rest on his laurels, Fabregas is now aiming at bigger and better, though he isn’t planning on moving clubs to do it.

Plans for the future

“The Premier League has always been a trophy that I wanted to get in my career. Hopefully it will be the first of many,” Fabregas told Chelsea TV, as relayed by ITV.

“I hope the future holds many trophies, many Premier Leagues, Champions Leagues and hopefully we can start building a fantastic team that next year can fight for the Premier League and Champions League.

“It feels great. It’s the feeling that I really wanted to get. It’s a special moment, a special trophy. The most difficult league in the world, so very proud.”

Chelsea improvements

Given how important the 27-year-old has been for Mourinho this term one can safely rule out the prospect of someone else being purchased to contest his position.

Improvements will likely be made over the course of the summer but Fabregas’ position appears to be safe, and the idea that he can help them towards taking their domestic dominance onto the European stage shouldn’t be sneered at.

Just one or two additions could push Chelsea onto a level playing field with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, and with the immense talent already at his disposal Mourinho will surely have his eye on similar levels of success as Fabregas is touting.
