Manchester United have not yet decided whether they will sign Radamel Falcao permanently this summer, despite the fact that he’s endured an altogether poor season.
That’s according to AS Monaco’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev, who has confirmed that he met with Red Devils officials last week and received no word on whether or not Louis van Gaal wanted to keep Falcao within his fold.
After moving on a season-long loan to Old Trafford last summer many expected Falcao to become the scourge of the Premier League. Instead the Colombian has struggled to make a lasting impression and during the second-half of the season he’s largely been restricted to appearances from the bench.
Yet, despite the fact many are assuming he will simply return to France once the campaign ends it would appear that no definite call has been made by United.
No decision yet
“I met the Manchester officials last Sunday. They have not decided if they would exercise the option,” said Vasilyev, as relayed by French newspaper L’Equipe.
“It has not been his best season, but they will decide at the season."
The big decision
Indeed come the summer Van Gaal will have an important decision to make regarding his strike-force.
The Dutchman revealed himself after the 1-0 loss to West Brom that he wasn’t happy with how prolific his strikers had been of late, and if they do qualify for the Champions League they’ll need more firepower than they’ve mustered this term.
However it will come down to whether or not the Dutchman honestly believes Falcao can shine like he has elsewhere once he’s taken a year to adjust to English football. With wages of £265,000-a-week a decision on Falcao can’t be made lightly, although his record does speak volumes about how dangerous he can be when on form.
