Seth Rollins opens up about first wrestling icon, and WWE violence

Football News

Seth Rollins has only been World Champion for around seven weeks, but it has been a long time coming.

The 28-year-old has been dreaming of winning the gold since he was a child.

In the latest interview to be included in the E:60 ESPN Documentary, Rollins was followed around his hometown and asked about what it was like growing up as a wrestling fan.

"My brother and I would wrestle in my grandparents' living room, that was our spot," Rollins explained. "Even when he wasn't there, I would fight pillows and the wrestling buddies (plush toys shaped like wrestlers) all on my own."

"Hulk Hogan was a superhero to me as a kid. I loved Batman as a kid, but he wasn't a real person. He was a character, and I couldn't touch him. But Hulk Hogan, I watched him walk out on the ramp and get into the ring. He was a real person. If he was real, why couldn't I be like him? Why couldn't I do that, too?"

He also talked about WWE presenting perceived violence, not actual violence:

"It's not a wrestling show, it's a TV show about a wrestling show. It's a classic morality tale. It's a story as old as time. You have an antagonist and you have a protagonist. You have a conflict and you have a resolution."

In the news

Seth Rollins has been around the news and media a lot over the past few weeks regarding his finishing move "The Curb Stomp" being banned, then not banned and just "put on hold."

It seems the move is thought to be dangerous and insensitive with so many concussion lawsuits being filed against WWE at the moment. But as soon as this passes the World Champion will once again be allowed to perform the move.

It was announced on Monday night Raw that Seth will defend his Championship in a fatal-four way match at Payback next Sunday against former Shield teammates Roman Reign and Dean Ambrose as well as The Viper Randy Orton and if rumors are to be believed, one of Seth's former team mates could be about to join The Authority at the event.

The go home episode of Raw this Monday Night could hold a lot of the answers, but with Kane uttering "I have a plan" before he included Dean Ambrose in the match, you have to think The Lunatic Fringe will have something up his sleeve.
