Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has admitted that Manchester United have landed the 'next Ronaldo' in PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay.
The Red Devils swooped to seal a £22 million deal for the 21-year-old earlier this week amidst reported interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, handing him a four-year contract worth around £130,000-per-week.
The Dutchman is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe and starred for his country at the World Cup, and countryman Advocaat believes he has the potential to be as good as Ronaldo in the future.
He told the Sun: "They have bought a very talented young player full of skills. He is crazy about football. He is like Ronaldo. He does shooting one hour before and one hour extra after training.
“He works on himself and also on his body. He is a real professional. He was a real professional at a young age when he wasn’t playing.
“But in the last two years he has improved more and he is playing with the national team. He is a good player and a good pro. It’s difficult to say where he will play. But he can make it.”
Depay is likely to be the first of many new faces at Manchester United in the summer, with boss Louis van Gaal reportedly ready to splash at least £150 million to take the Red Devils back to the top of the table.
Since the Dutch international completed his move to Manchester United, PSV chief Marcel Brands has revealed that he was close to joining PSG - something Van Gaal says forced him to move quickly.
"I have been forced to sign him," he said. "I had to handle it otherwise he would have signed for PSG."
Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has been suggested as a target along with Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne. Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani is on their hitlist but reports today suggest he could be close to a move to Juventus, while Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale remain on their radar.
Can Depay be anywhere near as good as Ronaldo in the next five years?
