Ron Vlaar has been relinquished of his captaincy duties by Villa boss Tim Sherwood. Since Sherwood took over the side Vlaar has been sidelined with injuries and the former Spurs boss had no other choice but to pass the captaincy armband on.

When Vlaar arrived back in the team after full fitness Sherwood told him that Fabian Delph was to remain captain.

He said: "When I came back into the team Fabian was captain, and that's no problem. Fabian has developed as a leader of the team. He's ready for it now, you can see that on the pitch and you can see it off the pitch"

Ron Vlaar's contract ends at the end of this season amid fears that he may no longer be in Tim Sherwood's plans for the future. Vlaar has spoken to various media outlets and has assured fans that Fabian Delph has the right attitude and leadership skills to move this Villa side forward.

Aston Villa remaining fixtures of the 2014/2015 season are: West Ham, Southampton, and Burnley at home.

On 30th May 2015 Aston Villa play Arsenal in the final of the FA Cup but this could be over shadowed if Villa do not secure Premier League status.
