Ex-WWE writer reveals John Cena wanted epic feud with this Superstar

John Cena has been around the WWE long enough to have faced most of the biggest names in the business.

Indeed, his longevity and the lack of options left for the WWE creative are part of the reason that he has lost the support of a large section of the fan base.

Nearly man

Bit while Cena has gone up against most of the top talent, an interview with one former WWE writer conducted recently has revealed that the Superstar was nearly paired up against an unlikely opponent for a SummerSlam main event a couple of years back - and Cena himself championed the move before it was thrown out by the WWE.

Kevin Eck, writing on his personal blog, went into detail about how Cena was on the verge of facing off in a long term feud against wrestler Jason Albert (Matt Bloom) when he returned to the WWE in 2012 as Tensai.

The American Samurai character was supposed to be given a huge push as a major heel but ultimately failed to win over a skeptical WWE crowd. This put paid to the plan, explained by Eck, that would have seen Tensai involved in the main event match at that year's SummerSlam against John Cena.

Cena backing

The revelation is backed up by the fact that Tensai was given a pinfall victory over John Cena early on in his run, in front of the TV audience no less.

Although the plan never came to fruition the former writer noted how Cena had already given his backing to the plan - telling WWE officials that he was looking forward to the chance to get in the ring with "a big man who can work."

SummerSlam 2012's main event ultimately saw Triple H do battle with Brock Lesnar so neither man got their wish it seems. Cena, without the American Samurai to fight, was ultimately left to match up against CM Punk and Big Show.

Leaving that match, and the night, without the title after defeat to punk John Cena must have been cursing his luck that the WWE Universe didn't take to Jason Albert's new character - thus ruining the creative team's plans that year.
