Any news regarding Daniel Bryan and injury is news that no member of the WWE Universe wants to hear and his vacating of the Intercontinental Championship this week on Raw was certainly not welcomed.
This unwanted announcement was another blow in what has already been an incredibly troublesome and injury-plagued WWE career for Bryan.
Having emphatically won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and reached the highest point in professional wrestling while having the backing of near enough every WWE fan, Bryan's dream was to be cut short as he missed most of last year with a recurring neck and shoulder issue.
As reported by PWInsider, the company were actually intending on getting everyone's favourite 'yes!' man back in the ring this month by having a match with King Barrett at the Payback pay-per-view event this coming Sunday night.
Unsurprisingly, after undergoing a number of tests, the results Daniel Bryan and WWE got back proved what no one wanted to hear; that not only would he not be back in a WWE ring any time soon, but is not clear when he will be able to make a return, if at all.
To add to the frustration of the physical aspect of Bryan's problems is that he has a new book and DVD coming out next month which would clearly mean any sort of airtime would be beneficial to both him and the company.
If his injuries are so bad at present that it is even best for him to take time away from WWE television altogether even if he is not wrestling, it is difficult to imagine him ever wrestling full-time at some point in the near future.
Change of plan
That said, it has been rumoured that WWE may consider giving Bryan some kind of role outside of the ring.
Ideally it would involve him fulfilling some kind of General Manager role, but it is questionable as to how this would be played out given the story line involving The Authority.
Even if it is hard to imagine, any kind of role which involves D-Bry being on our WWE television screens would be a welcome one as he doubtlessly brings something to the screen that no one else on the WWE roster does.
Everything surrounding this topic and this incredible WWE superstar is so desperately sad given the hard work Bryan put in for so many years to make it to the top, only for it to be taken away from both him and the devoted fans because of untimely injuries.
With WWE having dealt with incidents such as this and changes such as this before, the company will be sure to find a way which works Bryan back into its programming while not hindering his physical ability any further and still maintaining the support of the WWE Universe.
