Ryan Giggs will try to tempt Gareth Bale to Manchester United

Manchester United are hoping to use Ryan Giggs as their secret weapon in a bid to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford, reports The Sun.

Louis van Gaal's assistant manager is an idol of Bale's, who grew up watching him win a plethora of trophies for the Red Devils.

Having spent time together with the Welsh national team, the pair are now believed to share a close relationship and Manchester United are hoping Giggs' presence will be enough to tempt Bale.

Bale had been a target for the Red Devils before he signed for Real Madrid but their late attempt to hijack the £86m deal from Tottenham failed.

The winger saw Sir Alex Ferguson retire and may have been unsure about David Moyes. Having seen Manchester United finish seventh last season, Bale would have been happy with his decision.

But under Van Gaal, and with Giggs is in a greater position of power, Manchester United's future at the top of the Premier League is more assured.

Second chance

The 25-year-old rejected a move to Old Trafford in 2013 because he dreamed of playing for Real Madrid.

He has now won the Champions League with Los Blancos but has seen his time in the Spanish capital turn sour.

A large section of the Bernabeu are continuing to boo Bale, accusing the Welshman of inertia and selfishness.

Carlo Ancelotti is still a big fan of the winger, but the Italian's future is uncertain. Should Ancelotti leave, there is a good chance his replacement will look to freshen up the squad with his own additions.

The cost

Selling Bale to United would generate £86m for Real Madrid and allow them to reinvest in another Galactico signing.

Manchester United could get a significant chunk cut out of the transfer fee if they agree to include David de Gea in the deal, but Van Gaal is still trying to convince the goalkeeper to stay.

The final decision will lie with Bale, who is still determined to become a success for Real Madrid. Should he give up on his Spanish dream, Bale wants to make sure he is making the right decision.

Manchester United are hoping the presence of Giggs will tip the odds in their favour.
