David de Gea scores free-kick during Manchester United training ground challenge

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been earning rave reviews for his fine performances between the sticks at Old Trafford this season, but it seems the Spain international has another secret talent that's flown under the radar.

The 24-year-old has been showing off his talent at set-pieces during a recent training ground challenge with Youtube tricksters Freekickerz, netting the winning free-kick in the last of three separate dead-ball drills.

Alongside Red Devils team-mates Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo the former Atletico Madrid man was tasked with taking on the trio of show-boating sensations at Carrington, in a challenge that was set up by the club's betting sponsors Bwin.

After losing the first target practice drill the Manchester United stars drew level in the rabona crossbar challenge after club-record signing Di Maria perfectly planted his delicately chipped effort right in the middle of the woodwork.

But, after he and his Argentine compatriot Rojo both missed their free-kicks it was left down to De Gea to restore the players' pride and secure victory over the tricksters with an impressive bending effort round the wall that the likes of Wayne Rooney or Juan Mata would've been proud of.

It's no wonder that Real Madrid want to sign the Red Devils custodian when the transfer window reopens this summer. With skills like that he could be taking over free-kick duty from FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu next season!

Okay, so the chances of that are very slim indeed, but it does look as though De Gea could follow in the footsteps of the Portuguese forward by leaving the Theatre of Dreams and joining Los Blancos this summer.

Louis van Gaal will be desperate to keep hold of the former Atletico Madrid man, but he faces a difficult task convincing him to remain in the Premier League. With just 12 months remaining on his current Manchester United contract the recently crowned Player of the Year has so far refused to commit his future by penning an extension.

And, if no agreement can be reached then the club might be forced to cash-in or else risk losing one of their best players on a Bosman free transfer in one year's time.

Manchester United fans: Watch the video of David de Gea and co taking part in the Bwin set-piece challenge, and let us know if you'd let the Spanish stopper take free-kicks if you were in Louis van Gaal's position...
