Dani Alves could reject Manchester United for MLS move

After finishing the 2014/15 Premier League season in 4th place, Louis van Gaal looks set to bring in some big signings in a bid to make Manchester United title challengers.

Van Gaal has already parted with £25million to bring in exciting winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven, while Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and even Liverpool's want-away star Raheem Sterling have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.

Well, whilst LVG and Ed Woodward have seemingly been working hard to reinforce the ranks at United, it appears that one top target could reject the Red Devils as Dani Alves is considering a potential move to Major League Soccer according to Tor-Kristian Karlsen of The Guardian.

Alves on a Free

Karlsen was writing a piece on the best players available on free transfers at the end of this season and brought up Brazilian right back Alves, who looks set to leave Barcelona and La Liga after 13 years in the top flight of Spanish football.

Karlsen revealed that Van Gaal and United apparently have a serious interest in the 32-year old, but so do Major League Soccer who would bring Alves in as a Designated Player.

Valencia's Replacement?

If Alves actually joined United he would surely be put in straight away for Antonio Valencia. The Ecuadorian winger has been played out of position at right back by Louis van Gaal all season thanks to the injury struggles that have befallen former starting full back Rafael.

The Brazilian suffered broken ribs while playing for the Under 21's last month and may well have played his last game in Manchester, with Serie A sides Sao Paolo and Cruzeiro rumoured to be interested in the international.

Alves, meanwhile, has called a press conference for Tuesday where it seems certain that he will announce his exit from the Camp Nou after winning his 5th La Liga title last weekend, while he'll be competing for this third Champions League victory as Barca face Juventus.

If Alves were to move to North America, he could very well team up with former Barcelona teammate David Villa at New York City FC. NYC currently have two Designated Players on their roster in Villa and Frank Lampard, eventually, so would have a spot to bring in Alves as their final big signing, if Villa were to call his friend up to campaign him to move to the Big Apple.
