Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted that Argentine duo Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo could miss the start of next season as they're set to take part in this summer's Copa America competition.
Speaking to MUTV, as reported by ESPN, the Dutch boss, who is set to take charge of the Red Devils for the final time this season against Hull City at the KC Stadium tomorrow afternoon, has admitted that the duo will need a holiday before they return for pre-season in preparation for the 2015/16 campaign.
Despite admitting that the competition isn't good for his side, Van Gaal insisted that he's hoping they make it to the final as they go in search of success in Chile.
Ultimately, though, the final won't take place until July 4, so it appears that they may not be available for the opening few games of the new season.
In need of a break
Speaking to reporters, the Manchester United chief stated: "They need also, as the other players do, holiday and when they are getting into the final, which is possible for Argentina, then they are late in our preparation [preseason training]," he told MUTV.
"That is not so good for Manchester United but I hope they shall play the final because that is great for them."
One thing's for sure, both players will be hoping to feature in the club's final Premier League clash of the season tomorrow as the Red Devils go in search of one final three points.
The best still to come
Van Gaal will certainly be right to give them a break - there's no point throwing them in at the deep end next term without rest.
There's no doubt about it, the 2015/16 campaign is set to be a huge one for the duo of Di Maria and Rojo, who will no doubt be hoping to kick on in Manchester.
At the end of the day, both players have had their ups-and-downs under the Louis van Gaal regime, but have the ability to become consistent players for the club sooner rather than later. Of course, all eyes will be on Di Maria, and he can become a leading player for the club next season.
