Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is closing in on a free transfer move to Juventus, according to talkSPORT.
The German World Cup winner is a free agent this summer after failing to agree terms on a new deal with the Spanish outfit and despite strong interest from the Premier League, it looks like a move to Serie A is the more likely outcome for the midfielder.
The 28-year-old, who has been struggling with injuries in recent seasons, confirmed earlier this season that he has no intentions on extending his stay at the Bernabeu, sparking a transfer war between several teams all hoping to sign him.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all keen last summer from the Premier League, whilst German side Schalke were considered favourites during the January transfer period.
Juventus Summer Plans
However, it's now the Serie A champions that are in pole position to sign the midfielder.
Juve are expected to lose Paul Pogba and/or Arturo Vidal this summer with several giants all interested in signing them, so the Champions League finalists see Khedira a suitable replacement for one of them.
Pogba has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, whilst Vidal has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Old Lady will get a hefty sum if they were to sell either Pogba or Vidal, but Khedira would arrive in Turin on a free transfer due to being out of contract in Spain.
The German has been at Madrid since moving from Stuttgart back in 2010. During his five years in Spain, the midfielder has gone on to make 106 league appearances, scoring six goals.
The only potential stumbling block for Juve is Khedira's wage demands.
The midfielder was expected to move to Arsenal last summer but Arsene Wenger cancelled the deal after the World Cup winner demanded in excess of £200k-a-week.
However, since then, it's believed Khedira is willing to lower his wage demands and will look to secure a move to Juve on a contract worth around £100k.
According to reports in Spain, Juventus are very close to announcing a deal for Khedira, meaning the Premier League trio will miss out.
