WWE Elimination Chamber: Who needs to impress the most?

The Elimination Chamber makes a return to the WWE calendar on Sunday and the card is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated of the year.

We will see Seth Rollins defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens will take on United States Champion John Cena, whilst two Elimination Chamber matches will also take place with the vacant Intercontinental Championship on the line as well as the New Day defending their WWE Tag Team Championships.

Expectations are certainly high considering the Elimination Chamber was a late addition and was only announced a couple of weeks ago, and a number of WWE superstars and divas need to impress to ensure that the event goes down a huge success.

Here are the stars I believe have the most pressure to impress at the Elimination Chamber event on Sunday.

I think Rusev is heading for an interesting couple of months now, he’s been able to work with John Cena since January and he’s almost half a year in to the year and needs a new feud, so perhaps capturing the Intercontinental Championship will be a good way to continue his momentum.

He now also doesn’t have Lana by his side so it will be interesting to see just how dominant Rusev can be without anyone in his corner and I feel that a poor showing at the Elimination Chamber could potentially be the start of his downfall.

Hopefully that isn’t the case and he can enjoy a successful career in the WWE, but if Rusev wants to be treated as the dominant monster he has been since his arrival, the pressure is on for him to be one of the main talking points at the conclusion of the event.

Naomi will be trying to dethrone Nikki Bella once more but this time Paige has been thrown in as well to make it a triple threat match. Nikki Bella has been a good divas champion, it’s good that the title isn’t changing hands every other week and she’s the one stable champion in the company so she doesn’t really have a lot to prove.

Paige impresses in almost every match, she’s only just returned and is still very young and it’s scary to think in a couple of years just how good she will be. Naomi is a good worker also, but I feel that her run as a heel hasn’t been very successful, not as successful as what people thought it might have been.

She’s had numerous chances to dethrone the champion and it can only go on for so long before she misses out to another diva, she needs to put in a great performance at Elimination Chamber so fans can still see her as a serious threat.

It was a bold move from the WWE to take the titles from a successful team in Cesaro and Tyson Kidd and stick them on a trio who weren’t really being welcomed by the fans. So far they’ve embraced the heat well and Xavier Woods is doing a fantastic job of embracing that heat and remain entertaining in doing so.

They’re up against pretty much every tag team on the roster and they need to put up a big fight to prove to the fans that they are the best team in the company right now, even as heels because the likes of The Ascension will be wanting to turn their fortunes around whilst the Lucha Dragons would also like a stage to showcase their talents and it could happen on Sunday.

But it still raises the question, just how long can he, Big E and Kofi Kingston continue with the same act before they run out of ideas? It could start as early as Elimination Chamber so I do think they need to put in an entertaining performance, one where they show they deserve to hold on to the titles for a short while longer.

What a way to introduce yourself to the WWE, after dominating since his arrival on NXT Kevin Owens has gone on to capture and retain the NXT Championship numerous times and on his first appearance on the main roster, he verbally destroyed John Cena before hitting him with a huge pop-up powerbomb and stamping on the United States Championship, impressive.

The debut might have been great, but even he knows that all eyes will be on him. NXT fans will be behind him whereas fans who aren’t familiar with him or NXT will look to him to see just how good the man representing NXT is, if he puts on a below par performance, NXT won’t gain any new fans and people will be left unimpressed.

Kevin Owens needs to win, and needs to put on an entertaining and dominating showing for the fans o when he does eventually move up full time, fans know what to expect and are genuinely excited.

Dean Ambrose gets another crack at his former Shield stable mate and current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. Fans already know what to expect, we’ve seen it before but it’s a match fans have been wanting to see for a while.

I think Dean Ambrose needs to impress, he is definitely one of the best superstars on the roster but I still believe – regardless of his talent – he needs to prove a little more that he’s ready to genuinely contend for the championship and that’s because Roman Reigns has been forced to that level whilst Seth Rollins is that good and has had the opportunities.

That doesn’t mean Dean Ambrose needs to win in order to remain a top contender, he just needs to come close to dethroning the champion so at the end of the event, fans know that he’s someone who on a different day could definitely become the champion, a poor showing – which would be very rare – wouldn’t help his chances.
