The father of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has sent a tweet to Petr Cech, calling for the Czech Republic international to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer.

Thierry Courtois, responding to speculation that Cech could leave Chelsea, sent a public tweet to Cech which read: “The supporters want you to stay. I want also to thank you!”

It was a nice touch from Courtois Snr. whose son displaced the veteran goalkeeper as the No. 1 at Stamford Bridge at the start of the season.

Cech is expected to leave Chelsea, with a number of top clubs keen to secure his services. Arsenal and Manchester United are amongst the Premier League clubs to have been linked with the 33-year-old in recent weeks.

It’s understood that Cech’s preference is to stay in London, but whether Jose Mourinho would agree to sell one his favourite players to Arsene Wenger still seems highly doubtful, regardless of whether or not the player wants to join the Gunners.

Mourinho will try to convince Cech

It was reported earlier this week that Mourinho will attempt, once again, to convince Cech to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea manager believes Cech has made a key contribution to the team’s success this season and wants him to stay with the Blues ahead of another demanding campaign.

But Cech has made it clear that he is not prepared to play second-fiddle to Courtois for a second successive season.

With Courtois on course to become the world’s best goalkeeper, there’s no chance that Mourinho will reinstate Cech as his number one, so the latter’s exit from Stamford Bridge now looks all but certain.

Cech has been excellent with Courtois

But while it has undoubtedly been a frustrating season for Cech, the world-class goalkeeper has been superb with Courtois, taking the 23-year-old under his wing despite the competition that exists between them.

Cech could have reacted negatively towards the young Belgium international, but the two men have struck up an excellent working relationship this season.

Full credit for that must go to Cech, a model professional who will be a huge asset to whichever club he signs for this summer.
