We now enter a vital period for the Irish MMA scene. At the moment there is currently 10 names listed on UFC events or worldwide MMA shows. It ranges from history being made, to some fighters wanting to avenge recent performances or simply just wanting to climb that lucrative MMA ladder.

McGregor v Aldo

First on the list of names is of course Conor McGregor. McGregor takes on the current UFC featherweight champion and the UFC's #1 ranked pound for pound fighter, Jose Aldo in his next bout.

If he wins against Aldo he will in fact be the first ever Irish champion in the history of the UFC. A win would also send waves of caution throughout the divisions to show that McGregor is not a one trick pony and deserves the hype that is surrounding him.

Next up is Cathal Pendred, one of several fighters flying the Irish flag out of the SBG gym. Pendred, currently undefeated in three fights since making his UFC debut, has had some below par performances since his heroic comeback against Mike King in UFC Dublin.

He will face off against Augusto Montano at UFC 188 in Mexico on June 13 and I'm sure will be eager to show everyone what he is truly capable of.

Paddy Holohan

Another member of the illustrious SBG gym facing off in the coming months is Paddy Holohan. It was confirmed this week that he is to face off against Vaughan Lee at UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Off the back of a decision victory against Shane Howell in his most recent fight, the Irishman will be looking to get another victory under his belt and look to break into the flyweight rankings for the time being.

Donegal candidate

The first name to be included on the card for UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow is Donegal's Joseph Duffy. The Irishman will be facing off against Ivan Jorge. After a very impressive debut victory knockout against Jake Lindsey at UFC 185 - a victory that was so impressive which prompted UFC president Dana White to tip him as a potential champion - Duffy will be looking to capitalize and gain another valuable triumph.

Neil Seery, a member of Team Ryano was announced to be fighting Louis Smolka at UFC 189. The same card his fellow countryman Conor McGregor is headlining, Seery will be aiming to secure his third consecutive UFC win at UFC 189, following back-to-back victories against Phil Harris and Chris Beal.

More Ryano troops

Another member of Team Ryano, Paul Redmond was added to the fight card for UFC Fight Night 72. After accepting his first UFC fight against Mirsad Bektic on just two weeks notice, he unfortunately came up short on his debut. The submission specialist from Dublin will be looking to bounce back and get his first UFC victory against Scottish opponent Robert Whiteford.

Antrim’s Norman Parke will be in Brazil this Saturday for his seventh bout as a UFC fighter. Parke will be facing off against Francisco Trinaldo and will be keen to show his abilities and hopefully break into the rankings with a victory this Saturday.

Other Irish fighters in action outside of the UFC are Peter Queally and Chris Fields. Both are also members of the SBG gym in Dublin. Peter Queally faces off against Igeu Kabesa, as the Waterford man is heading back to lightweight for EFC 40.
