Rangi Chase returns for despondent Salford Red Devils

Salford fans must look back to May 2010 for their last victory over St. Helens and attempt to forget the 403 points they have conceded in the 10 meetings since that win; an average of little over 40 points per game.

St. Helens, however, will go into the game knowing that a win will place them above Leeds, who take on the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Sunday. The two sides square off at Saints' home ground of Langtree Park on Friday night.

Recent form is not in the favour of the Red Devils either, having not won since a 24-18 victory over Wigan Warriors on April 6th.

Chase Returns

Salford are a side plagued with injuries across the board, notwithstanding the key positions of halfback; Michael Dobson has not played since being forced from the field early in the cup defeat against Leigh Centurions and Rangi Chase has finally completed his 7 match ban, picked up from a game the week preceding the defeat over the Warriors.

There’s no doubt that the absence of these two players is key to the long running string of defeats the side has incurred.

Saints Injury Woes

Saints are a side with their own injury woes, playing the majority of the games of the season thus far without star man Luke Walsh. Yet, despite their own setbacks, they have managed to find themselves in 2nd place, only a point behind Leeds Rhinos.

A dominant 2nd half performance over close rivals Warrington Wolves at the Magic Weekend saw Saints grab their 11th win of the season and 4th from their previous 6 games.

The tides are turned in rugby league often, but for the Red Devils to break the trend of recent events will take something monumental.

The return of Rangi Chase to the side will lift confidence for all the players and it shall be interesting to witness whether the 7 weeks of not playing will be detrimental to his game.

Saints have the return of young centre Mark Percival to select from, with Jack Ashworth consequently dropped from the squad.
