Real Madrid start off De Gea transfer battle with £13m offer

Real Madrid are preparing a bid to prise David de Gea away from Old Trafford but with the offer reportedly as low as £13 million, Manchester United fans will be far from happy.

According to the Daily Mailthe Spanish star has revealed to his teammates that he wants to return to his home town to play with 10 times European Cup winners Real Madrid. De Gea first began his playing career at arch rivals Atlético Madrid but now seems desperate to move across town to join Ronaldo and co at the Bernabéu.

After having a shaky start after first joining Manchester United in 2011, De Gea has become one of the world's finest goalkeepers and is now a fan's favourite at Old Trafford. However if De Gea is to leave, United fans will at least want a fair price for him - not the derisory £13 million that Real Madrid are reportedly planning on offering.

This would surely be immediately rejected by the Manchester United hierarchy as they wouldn't want to make a loss on the keeper, who cost almost £18 million to bring to Old Trafford.  A bid between £25-£30 million would almost certainly be accepted for a player who goes into the last year of his contract this summer.

But who could replace De Gea should he return to Madrid in the summer? United already have a world class keeper in their ranks in Víctor Valdés so perhaps looking for a replacement elsewhere wouldn't be necessary.

There are also rumours swirling around about Hugo Lloris and Petr Čech being replacements for David de Gea but with Čech seemingly Arsenal bound and Spurs demanding around £35 million for Lloris, it is unlikely that we will see these two in a United shirt next season.

How much is David de Gea worth given he's in the last year of his contract?
