Dutch legend warns Louis van Gaal over Memphis Depay

Former Holland striker Pierre van Hooijdonk has warned Louis van Gaal over his use of Memphis Depay next season, saying the £25m signing needs to be deployed in his favoured position if Manchester United want to get the best out of him. The fleet-footed forward enjoyed a scintillating campaign with PSV Eindhoven last term, finishing the season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 22 goals. Van Hooijdonk reckons Depay has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League as well, as long as the Red Devils create an environment that suits him. Much is expected of the Netherlands international ahead of his arrival at Old Trafford, and Manchester United supporters will be anticipating big things from a player that Van Gaal already knows well. Ryan Giggs talked up the 21-year-old’s credentials in a recent interview with the Sunday Times, tipping the Dutchman to bring something that’s been missing at the Theatre of Dreams since the days of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
