What is it with NFL players getting in to accidents with fireworks.

Firework Failures

After Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants managed to burn most of his hand and potentially cause nerve damage that could see him miss the start of the 2015 NFL season, another player has done the same.

Unfortunately for C.J. Wilson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the damage to his hand from a firework accident is much more serious.

Severe Injury

According to a report from The Lincoln Times-News in Wilson’s hometown of Lincolnton, North Carolina, the Buccaneers defensive back has apparently lost two fingers that were blown off in the mishap.

"Wilson severely injured one of his hands in a Fourth of July fireworks accident on Saturday. Wilson lost two fingers in the accident, sources close to the family have confirmed to the Lincoln Times-News," they wrote.

Career Over?

This could be a real career ender for Wilson in what would be such a tragedy. The 25-year old played in two games for the Buccaneers last season and two games for the Bears the year before. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State in 2013.

The Buccaneers released a statement on the situation after news of Wilson's went viral following the talk about Pierre-Paul's injury before him.

“We are aware that C.J. was involved in an accident that occurred over the July 4th holiday. It is our understanding that the injury occurred to one of his hands and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health."

We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation,” Tampa Bay said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.

No official details have been released about the injury, so lets hope that the report from the Times-News is wrong - like initial reports on JPP were - and that this doesn't signal the death knell for his career.
