Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is in talks with Turkish giants Fenerbahce over a summer transfer move, and will head to Istanbul on Sunday, according to the club’s president.

A statement to be found on Goal today details how negotiations are underway for a switch that would see Van Persie leave Old Trafford just three years after arriving there in the midst of a controversial move from Arsenal.

Yesterday it was claimed that Van Persie believes he is being forced out by Louis van Gaal and the powers that be, with reports suggesting that he felt betrayed by the club.

Now we’re not sure about the validity of that, but it would appear efforts are certainly being made with regards to him leaving the club.

Fenerbahce have been linked with the forward for some time now, and the recent confirmation can be taken as proof that there’s a chance a deal will be done soon.

"Robin van Persie is coming to Istanbul on Sunday," Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim said.

United fans could well bemoan Van Persie’s loss if he does indeed move on to pastures new this summer.

Bemoaning RVP's loss?

The 31-year-old was a key component in the last that last won the Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season with the club, and although he’s since struggled to be consistently brilliant he remains a top predator on his day.

If he does leave though Van Gaal will almost certainly be charged with finding an adequate replacement.

Wayne Rooney is good enough to be used as a leading frontman for sure, but it’s unlikely Javier Hernandez will be relied upon as his deputy, and the young James Wilson isn’t read for such a task yet.

United fans, is it right that Van Persie’s being sold? Let us know in the comments box below what you think.
