Conor 'Notorious' McGregor was crowned the UFC interim featherweight champion in a sensational performance stopping Chad 'Money' Mendes in the second round this weekend.

Historical Night In UFC

The Irishman lived up to the hype and proved he is the real deal by taking out his American challenger.

In the opening round the 26-year-old came out like a speed train to land a spinning kick on Mendes. The 30 year old wrestler had success taking McGregor down in both rounds but was unable to out power the Dubliner who continuously taunted his opponent inside the octagon.

The trash talker started to land clean on 'Money' with spinning kicks and punches, the striking from McGregor was visibly starting to take its toll on Mendes who started breathing heavy.

The number one rated contender did land some flush punches himself and managed to cut his rival above the right eye. It was 'Notorious' though who looked the more relaxed and fluid in the cage and in the second round with 10 seconds left McGregor landed a left hand which floored Mendes and as the youngster went on the attack the referee stopped the fight crowning the 26 year old as the new interim Featherweight champion.

The Real Deal

The atmosphere at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this Saturday was electric. Conor McGregor is evolving the UFC.

An entertaining trash talker who backs up what he says and isn't afraid of any challenge, the Irishman has a huge, ever growing fan base and is looking to become the biggest star in the sport.

The media obligations for this event have never been seen in the UFC, the attendance at the weigh in reached record numbers. Dana White knows that the future of this much loved combat sport is potentially in the palms of the 'Notorious' one.

Who's Next For The 'Notorious' One?

Next up could be a defence of his interim title against number two rated Frankie Edgar but the fans would all love the much anticipated bout with pound for pound great Jose Aldo who pulled out of this original scheduled fight with suspected broken ribs.

McGregor has taunted the UFC Featherweight champion and a fight between the two later this year would generate massive PPV numbers.

The world has never seen a persona's like Conor McGregor, Chael Sonnen was extremely entertaining with his trash talk but ultimately never lived up to his hype. The sport itself is starting to make massive noise. A character generates popularity, but a character that is a beast in the octagon spells world wide fame, Conor McGregor can definately take over the world.
