Manchester United have announced the signing of Torino right-back Matteo Darmian on a four-year deal.

The Italian right-back put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal at Old Trafford after flying over to England earlier in the week.

Darmian To United

Darmian has been strongly linked with a move away from Serie A and Torino for the past few weeks, and it was revealed by the club yesterday that a deal was close with officials refusing to block any potential transfer.

The 25-year-old had reportedly wrote an emotional farewell letter to Torino fans on his Instagram account, but later rubbished the reports after revealing he had no social media account.

However, it has now been confirmed by both Torino and United that the deal has been finalised, and Darmian is now officially a Manchester United player.

The Italian right-back spent four years with Torino, from 2011 to 2015, making 133 Serie A appearances for the club.

United boss Louis Van Gaal confirmed yesterday during a press-conference that Darmian was to undergo a medical at Old Trafford, and tonight the club confirmed the deal.

Darmian Delight

Speaking to the club's official website, the right-back said: “It is a dream come true to be joining Manchester United.

"I have loved the time that I have spent at Torino and I would like to thank the club and the fans for everything they have done for me.

"I am sure they can understand when the opportunity to join the biggest club in world came along it was something I had to do.

"To work with Louis van Gaal, a manager that has achieved so much in football is such an exciting prospect.”

Van Gaal Speaks to Club Website

Van Gaal also took time out to speak to the club's official website and revealed his delight at signing the right-back.

“Matteo is a right-sided full back with the versatility of also being able to play on the left.

"He is a strong defender and has the ability to go forward in the attacking positions which is a fantastic attribute to have and much needed in the fast rhythm of the Premier League. Matteo will be a great addition to the team.

"I am delighted to welcome Matteo to the club and look forward to working with him in the coming days.”
