Tragic news emanating out of the Texas area today with reports stating that divers have recovered a body in Lake Lavon, Tx. believed to be that of former NFL wide receiver JaJaun Dawson.

Authorities spent much of yesterday searching Dawson after he was reported to have jumped off a boat on Sunday while out with friends and family. He wasn't wearing a life jacket and failed to return to the surface.

According to CBS local's Dallas Fort Worth branch, those investigating the incident have matched the body discovered with images of the former Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns receiver.

Out on the lake with his brother, sister-in-law, niece, wife and his two children, JaJuan Dawson reportedly left the boat at around 6.30 on Sunday. The rescue operation began soon after and lasted until a body was discovered just before midnight on Monday.

CBS reports that Dawson was described as a strong swimmer by a friend and there remains uncertainty as to why he failed to resurface. There had, though, been a warning issued in the past few days to be wary of debris under the surface of the lake following recent flooding.

There is yet to be official confirmation that the body discovered is that of Dawson but authorities appear increasingly convinced.

Football career

JaJuan Dawson had an impressive college career at Tulane University. In four seasons at the Louisiana school he registered 31 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards - including two 1,000 yard seasons.

His success was rewarded with a place in the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.

Dawson's NFL career lasted between 2000 and 2004 having arrived in the league as a third round pick by the Cleveland Browns.

After scoring one touchdown in his rookie season with the Browns, Dawson amassed 281 yards and one touchdown in 2001 before joining his home city of Houston for the 2002 season.

That year he had 286 yards in 14 appearances but it would also prove to be his final year in the league.

JaJuan Dawson was 37-years-old at the time of his disappearance this Sunday.
