Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo felt the full force of his team-mate Pepe in training yesterday, having tried to wind up his compatriot during a game of piggy in the middle.

Some of the Madrid players were taking part in a short passing drill when the Ballon d'Or winner began barging into the central defender.

Less than a minute later the wide-man was left in a heap on the floor, clutching his foot, after a strong challenge from the 32-year-old.

There was no sympathy for Ronaldo from fellow defender Raphael Varane who could be seen laughing along with Pepe at the former Manchester United man's misfortune.

The Madrid players are back in training following a disappointing campaign that ended without silverware and led to Carlo Ancelotti getting the boot.

Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez will be hoping for a better season as he takes the reigns, following a stint in charge of Italian side Napoli.

Ronaldo is key to all things Madrid and Benitez will have breathed a sigh of relief to see the Portugal captain back on his feet moments later.

The Portuguese superstar, who had scored 225 goals in 200 league games for Madrid, should have known better than to wind up his team-mate, who is known for his crazy antics on the pitch.

Ronaldo will be thanking the footballing gods that Pepe is in fact his team-mate and not an opposition player kicking lumps out of him.

However Ronaldo is no stranger to some rough treatment as many players have tried physicality as a means of stopping the Madrid man.
