Defender wanted by a Premier League club is training with the Red Devils

Manchester United fans may not have heard of him, but Barnsley defender Mason Holgate is training with the Red Devils ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford. At least that’s what reports suggest, claiming that Aston Villa have lost the race to sign the 18-year-old and Barnsley are resigned to losing him as he enters the last 12 months of his contract. Obviously if the Tykes want to stop him they can, since he is officially a Barnsley player, but it’s thought they’re more keen to get a deal done this summer rather than keeping an unhappy individual at the club only to see him leave on a free next year. Don’t expect him to feature for Louis van Gaal anytime soon, but Holgate will fit nicely into United’s youth academy.
