Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors to play in London in 2016

The Orlando Magic and the Toronto Raptors will be playing against each other in London in January 2016.

The NBA and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) announced today that the Magic and the Raptors will play on January 14 2016, at The O2 as part of the NBA Global Games 2015-16. This will be the sixth regular season game in London.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he is looking forward to the game next season.

He said: “We look forward to returning to London next season with a regular-season game between the Orlando Magic and the Toronto Raptors. 

"This underscores our commitment to growing basketball in the region and to bringing more regular-season basketball to our fans in the UK.”

The last time the Magic were in London was for a pair of preseason games in 1993. Current Magic Head Coach Scott Skiles remembers playing in that game.

“On behalf of the Magic organization, we are looking forward to returning to London for NBA Global Games 2016. 

"I remember playing in London with the Magic in 1993 and I am sure our current players will relish this unique opportunity," he said.

The Head Coach of the Raptors Dwane Casey, agrees with Skiles that this is a great opportunity for the players of both teams.

He said: “NBA Global Games 2016 in London is a great platform for our players and staff to represent the NBA and bond with Raptors fans overseas. We look forward to an exciting atmosphere for our game against the Magic.”

The Raptors last played in London in back-to-back games in 2011. Tickets will go on sale for the game at the start of the 2015-16 NBA season.

The game has been dubbed as a "can't miss" event by Senior Vice President of AEG Sports Europe Matthieu Van Veen.

“We are very happy to be hosting an NBA regular-season game at The O2 for the sixth time," he said.

"The annual NBA Regular Season game at The O2 has successfully sold out since 2011 and has become a “can’t-miss” event in the European sports calendar.

"We look forward to welcoming the Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic to the O2 and bringing the excitement of NBA basketball to London’s passionate basketball fans.”
