Chelsea legend Frank Lampard insisted that he will one day return to the club at a fan event in New York last night.

The midfielder, who spent last season at rivals Manchester City, took to the microphone with supporters chanting 'we want our Frankie back.'

And the ex-England man certainly didn't disappoint with his brilliant response, as he stated: 'I'll be back'. Unsurprisingly, Lampard's message to the club's faithful was met with great joy, as fans cheered their hero.

Lampard, of course, is currently starring at New York City, but Blues fans will no doubt be hoping to see the 37-year-old make a comeback to Stamford Bridge in some capacity in the future.

Despite insisting that he will return to west London, it's now seemingly impossible that he will make his comeback as a player.

That, though, won't stop Blues fans dreaming of seeing him in the dugout one day, as a coach or even the manager of their beloved club.

And, with his former teammates in New York on pre-season, Lampard managed to catch up with some old friends...

In fact, the veteran took to Instagram to post a photo of himself with ex-teammate John Terry and masseur Billy McColloch, while he wished Chelsea luck ahead of the new campaign.

Great to see my mates @johnterry.26 and Billy McColloch at the @chelseafc hotel. Brought back so many memories of all our away trips. All the best for the season lads. #chelseabulldogs

Team to beat

And Chelsea will no doubt be the team to beat once again in 2015/16. Ultimately, Jose Mourinho's side were by some distance the best team in the division last time round, and will take some stopping once again next term.

The quartet of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City have all improved, but Mourinho's settled squad will no doubt start the campaign as favourites.

A target for Mourinho and Co., though, will no doubt be making a major impact on the European scene after last season's Champions League disappointment. The Blues certainly have the squad to compete on all fronts in what looks set to be another exciting season for all involved. Lampard will no doubt be watching on from New York.
