Everton are a media circus dream

As the transfer window opens, rumours surface and it's a time for fans to get excited.

Unless you are a Southampton fan waiting for Liverpool or Spurs to steal your new star or an Everton fan, where half your squad is fodder for every tabloid and rumour site across the nation.

Not a day passes during silly season when an Everton player isn't mentioned in the press. Usually without any substance and weight attached to the story.

So far this pre-season James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman, John Stones, Luke Garbutt, Aiden McGeady, Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku have all been linked with moves away from Goodison.

Garbutt signed a new 5 year deal and Coleman rumours died as soon as United paraded their new Italian full back. Next on the menu was Mirallas on his way to West Ham. Really? Doesn't anyone listen to the player and his wish to play Champions League football? No truth in that what so ever according to Goodison sources.

Next up- John Stones. Chelsea talk dies down as Everton state he is not for sale and warn Chelsea off in writing.

Shortly after we have Chelsea back in, United have joined the chase and Arsenal are now in too! At least stupid rumours of £26 million have been replaced by a fee between £35-38 million, which is more realistic.

Talk of transfer requests are idol talk though, with Goodison chiefs again stating the player is happy and nothing from player or agent. So once more, mischief by media attempting to create a story that isn't there.

Which brings me onto a corker.

There is a mystery striker that is interesting Manchester United. Step forward the Belgian Romelu Lukaku.

It's a joke at the moment and it's Everton who are laughing while the media chase tails, with plenty of egg on faces as the close of the window edges closer.

Don't bet against Everton starting the season with a full compliment of players.
