Manchester United fans are likely waiting with baited breathe to see just who will make Louis van Gaal’s squad for the club’s opening Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, and the Dutchman has offered a morsel sure to whet the appetite even more. Van Gaal confirmed that Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw were all set to start the first league game on August 8, offering a huge hint to how his defence could line up. Shaw’s obviously a left-back but struggled at times last season, whilst Darmian is in line to start ahead of Antonio Valencia and Rafael at right-back, and Blind looks increasingly like featuring as a centre-back. In other news United are set to tie Ashley Young to a new deal, because Van Gaal believes he is a key component. According to reports the England international is set to pen an extension, despite the fact he’s also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.
