Petr Cech ignored Jose Mourinho and signed for Arsenal this summer because of a meeting he had with Arsene Wenger, according to the Daily Mail.
The paper claims to have knowledge that the Stamford Bridge veteran didn’t speak with Mourinho prior to making his decision to move to north London, despite the fact that the Portuguese coach was keen to retain his services.
It’s believed that Roman Abramovich was the man who gave the go ahead for Cech’s move to Arsenal to be completed, as a reward for the years of leal service the 33-year-old has offered the club.

Mourinho on the other hand didn’t want to lose a man he deems to be a world-class performer, particularly not to a team that could well compete with Chelsea for the Premier League title next term.
However, once it was made clear that Thibaut Courtois would be the Blues’ number one moving forward Mourinho realised he would have a problem regarding Cech’s future, and the Mail claim two decisive meetings confirmed that his fears were cemented.
Purportedly Cech first met with Abramovich to ascertain whether it was true that the Russian billionaire would allow him to choose which club he moved on to.
In typical fashion the goalkeeper wanted to ensure he had his chief’s blessing before thinking seriously about moving to another top English club. During the meeting consent was given.
Then it was onto Wenger, who the Mail decorate as having been the primary factor in Cech’s decision.
The meeting between the Frenchman and his would-be number one is believed to have been where the ‘keeper made his choice, with location only having a small part to play in the matter.
For those wondering why Mourinho was unable to work his magic on Cech and convince him to stay, you may well have your answer. Even the Special One can’t whisper sweet nothings if he’s cut out of the loop altogether.
