There is one player in particular that San Diego Chargers’ Philip Rivers is excited to be playing with next season, Stevie Johnson.

According to, the Chargers quarterback is excited to be playing with the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver because of the plays he has made so far in training camp.

Rivers said: “Stevie’s off to a heck of a start. If there’s one guy you ask me I’m most excited about, I’d probably single him out just because of the plays he’s made. We’ve already had a handful of trust building plays and confidence building plays between the two of us, and it’s not that I didn’t already know.

“I’ve seen his track record and what he did in Buffalo and all that. But until you experience them together, it’s hard and you don’t know. We’ve had a few things (that are) encouraging. It gets me excited to know that he can be a huge part of our success this year.”

Johnson was surprising released by the San Francisco 49ers this past offseason. He is thankful he was able to sign for the Chargers as Rivers is probably the best quarterback Johnson has played with.

According to Jay Paris of the Associated Press, the wide receiver said: “Phil is great, man. We’ve linked together as brothers. We’re on a good path right now.

“He just makes everything easier. It’s obvious he’s one of the best, but he makes our job easy. Even when we make a mistake, he can clean it up just with his touch, with his savvy and just how he plays the game.”

With names like Johnson in the receiving group alongside tight end Antonio Gates, and receivers Keenan Allen and Jacoby Jones, it looks like it could be a promising year in the passing game for Rivers and the Chargers.
