Gunners can’t afford Arsene Wenger’s top target

Arsenal fans just can’t keep away from speculation concerning Karim Benzema at the moment, and it was only a matter of time before Spanish transfer know-it-all Guillem Balague had his say. Well he has, and we’re duly running with it today. Writing for newspaper AS, Balague claimed that Real Madrid have no intention of selling Benzema, and even if they wanted to the Gunners can’t afford the transfer fee. He goes on to say that the Frenchman would cost between 50 and €60m, which is more than Arsene Wenger can apparently afford. Cold water on the fire to say the very least. Meanwhile Gunners legend Thierry Henry has picked the man he would most like to play with, and, somewhat unsurprisingly it isn’t Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman selected new Liverpool star Christian Benteke as his ideal partner, citing the Belgian’s ability to hold the ball up and complement his talents.
