Manchester United launched a €35million bid for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The offer was rejected by Diego Simeone, who told Old Trafford officials that he would not be parting with the 22-year-old this summer.

Oblak is fast emerging as hot property in European football and was put on Manchester United's transfer shortlist earlier this summer.

Louis van Gaal believes the Slovenia international could become one of the world's best goalkeepers and was ready to pay big to sign him.

However, Atletico have no intention of parting with anyone from their team, sticking to a well-known policy of only allowing important stars to leave if a club meets their release clause.

According to The Mirror, Oblak's release clause current stands at £30m (€42m), which is not too far off what Marca claimed Manchester United offered.

De Gea replacement

Atletico seem to have a knack of producing excellent goalkeepers having previously brought David de Gea through the ranks before transforming the raw Thibaut Courtois into a world beater.

De Gea eventually moved to Old Trafford, but is set to return to Madrid to play for Atletico's bitter rivals, Real. Oblak, along with Tottenham's Hugo Lloris and Ajax star Jasper Cillessen, has been tipped to replace him at Old Trafford.

Oblak was plucked from the Benfica B side in 2014 and has made his way through the ranks at the Vicente Calderon. Having lost Courtois to Chelsea last summer, the Slovenian is fast emerging as the first-choice goalkeeper under Simeone.
