Chelsea are poised to announce the signing of Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman, who will become the Blues’ fifth acquisition of the summer.

This is according to German publication Bild, who understand the deal is now ‘imminent’.

Chelsea have already agreed a €25 million fee for the highly-rated left-back - but the finishing touches are now being put on the transfer ahead of the deal being finalised.

Baba Rahman will replace Filipe Luis, who rejoined Atletico Madrid following one season at Stamford Bridge last month, and will provide Cesar Azpilicueta with additional competition in the left full-back position.

The Ghana international was one of the best-performing full-backs in the Bundesliga last season and subsequently caught the eye of several top European clubs, including Juventus, AS Roma and Manchester City.

Baba Rahman is an exciting talent

However, it’s Chelsea who have won the race for the 21-year-old’s signature. He will become the fifth summer signing at the Bridge following the arrivals of Nathan, Radamel Falcao, Asmir Begovic and Danilo Pantic.

Baba Rahman possesses impressive pace and strength and should have little trouble adjusting to life in the Premier League.

However, given his relatively young age and the fact Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of Azpilicueta at left-back, the African defender has a huge job on his hands to become a first-team regular at Chelsea.

Nevertheless, Baba Rahman will still have plenty of opportunities to impress, with Chelsea competing on all fronts this season.
