2014 can be seen as the year where a new class of quarterbacks really took centre stage in the NFL with stars like Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel and Derek Carr often grabbing headlines.

With Bridgewater making a name for himself with the Minnesota Vikings and Manziel almost destroying his name with the Cleveland Browns, a lot of attention was paid to the quarterbacks of last years draft class.

More to focus on

Everyone will be watching the now second year Bridgewater, Carr and of course Jimmy Garoppolo with the New England Patriots, but there are two more big names to add to the mix.

The first two picks from this year's draft Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are preparing to make their mark on the league and everyone is wondering what they will do.

Winston in particular comes with a big reputation after his college career with Florida State, and now playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he has been likened to one big name NFL quarterback.

It's not unusual for a rookie quarterback to earn a comparison to an iconic passer, but when it comes from an active player, it tends to carry a bit more weight to it.

With the Buccaneers deep into their training camp, it could be argued that the man who would know Winston best, is his centre.

Evan Smith has been speaking about the man he will be giving the ball too this season, and he paid him a big compliment.

"I've only been around two other quarterbacks.... I played with one who was really good. He reminds me of a very young version of him." - Smith comparing Winston to Rodgers

Smith who formerly played with the Green Bay Packers and the current league MVP Aaron Rodgers has compared his new quarterback to one of the biggest names at the position today.

However, at the risk of making a big claim which could always be disproven, Smith attempted to put a bit more clarity to his claim.

"When I first got to Green Bay, you could see the talent there, you could see Aaron was starting to take off as a superstar. You can tell Jameis has that potential."

Claiming that Winston has that level of potential is still a big claim and will surely make everyone wonder what the Buccaneers can achieve next year.
